The project will be in winter shutdown starting December 4, 2023, and construction operations will be limited until March 2024. During this time, the road is closed to pedestrians, bicycles, and motor vehicles, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Access to the Vistancia neighborhood is now open through the north entrance.

See “Schedule Section” below for further information.

Bayou Gulch Road Project Fact Sheet

Description

Douglas County is improving Bayou Gulch Road between Pradera Parkway and Scott Avenue by realigning the roadway, installing new asphalt pavement, improving the storm infrastructure, and installing a continuous sidewalk throughout the project. After construction, the entire road – from Pradera Parkway to Scott Avenue – will have one lane in each direction paved with new asphalt, three-foot shoulders, and a continuous concrete sidewalk for pedestrian access.

This project also includes:

  • A new urban storm sewer system that will outlet into an existing permanent water quality pond located on the Cielo Development which was expanded by Douglas County last year in preparation for this project.
  • An extension of a dual 6’ by 6’ box culvert to accommodate the new alignment and “ultimate” four-lane major arterial section roadway width.

Schedule

Construction started on June 26, 2023, and is expected to be completed in May 2024. Working hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturday work is possible but must be approved by Douglas County Public Works. There will be no work during the holidays.

Road Closures:

Bayou Gulch Road will be CLOSED in different roadway sections within two different phases of the project, as follows:

  • Phase 1 – full closure of Bayou Gulch Road from Pradera Parkway to Scott Avenue – road closure dates are July 17 to Oct. 31, 2023. The Phase 1 closure is now open.
  • Phase 2 – full closure of Bayou Gulch Road from the northern access point of the Vistancia neighborhood to Scott Avenue – road closure dates are Oct. 12, 2023, to May 2024. During Phase 2, all access points to the Vistancia neighborhood will be open.
