Body Art Facilities

Body Art facilities provide non-medical modification or physical adornment including tattooing, body piercings (not ear piercings), and permanent makeup. Body art facilities are regulated to protect health and prevent disease. Facilities in Douglas County are inspected to assess compliance with health requirements. Environmental health staff also investigate complaints from the public.

Opening a Body Art Facility

To open and operate a body art facility, review and complete the online Body Art Application. You may also submit the application to [email protected] or mail it to 410 S Wilcox St. Suite 103, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Once your application has been submitted, one of our inspectors will reach out to schedule an inspection. Following the inspection and final approval, a license will be issued.

Prior to operating, Body Art establishments must meet the following requirements to obtain a license and legally operate:

Application: Submit a Body Art Application.

Blood-borne pathogen training: A course certificate is required within 90 days of hiring as a body artist. Knowledge of universal precautions, infection and exposure control, and a waste management plan are also required.

Pre-opening and Annual Inspection: Prior to opening, new Body Art establishments must be inspected. Licensed facilities are inspected annually for compliance with regulations.

Fees: All licensing/inspection fees must be paid prior to opening. View the Fee Schedule.
