Did you know that out of every 1,000 Douglas County residents, roughly 26 have an electric vehicle? If you’re one of them – you now have another charging station option.

CORE Electric Cooperative (CORE) and the Board of Douglas County Commissioners worked together to install a new Level 2 charging station at Glendale Farm Open Space in northern Douglas County.  The new station is fully operational and ready for use, thanks to funding from CORE and the Colorado Energy Office’s Charge Ahead Colorado Grant Program.

“In Douglas County, we want to build a transportation system that gives our residents the capability to be connected – so they can go where they want to go and live the lives they want to live,” said Commissioner George Teal. “We’re thankful for our funding partners – CORE and the Charge Ahead Grant Program – which provided 100% of the funding for this charging station.”

This EV charging station is one of a mix of Level 3 and Level 2 chargers being installed by the cooperative, many utilizing the Charge Ahead Colorado grant funding. The additional chargers will be installed throughout CORE’s service territory.

CORE’s estimates of electric vehicles stand at 6,200 – or about 2% – of the light-duty vehicles registered in CORE’s service territory as of early 2023. EV adoption rates, backed by aggressive state and federal incentives, are among the highest in Colorado.

“We are pleased to play a role in providing the EV infrastructure necessary to meet our members’ growing EV demands,” said Mandi Lesher, CORE’s Chief Member Experience Officer. “Douglas County has been a great partner in identifying locations and installation of this charger. Thank you to the Colorado Energy Office for supplying the Charge Ahead Colorado grants that help make this program possible.”
