Ring in the new year with family and friends in Douglas County

Board of County Commissioners hosts fireworks in Castle Rock and Highlands Ranch and a lighted drone show in Parker on New Year’s Eve

Posted on December 23, 2022 2022Breaking News

You, your family, and your friends are invited to celebrate the new year locally, in Douglas County. Choose from a lighted drone show in Parker, or fireworks in either Castle Rock or Highlands Ranch, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31.

Castle Rock Fireworks
A 30-minute, high-flying fireworks display will occur at the Douglas County Fairgrounds’ James R. Sullivan Events Center. Limited parking will be available within the Fairgrounds. For your safety, please follow signage and stay out of restricted areas.

Highlands Ranch Fireworks
A 30-minute, high-flying fireworks display will launch from the Wildcat Reserve Park site, southeast of Rock Canyon High School.

For ultimate viewing, parking will be allowed along portions of McArthur Ranch Road and Griggs Road. For safety reasons, parking will not be allowed along Monarch Boulevard. Please honor posted “No Parking” signs. Visit douglas.co.us/fireworks for specific parking details.

Parker Drone Show at EchoPark Stadium
Watch this lighted drone show from the parking lot of EchoPark Stadium. The show will be broadcast from Double Angel Park, west of the stadium. Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck will have coffee, hot cocoa, and spiced cider available for purchase. The show starts at 7 p.m. and will last about 12 minutes.

Please note: due to snowy conditions inside the stadium, attendees will not be able to watch from the bleachers. Please watch the show from the parking lot.

Additional Safety Details about Fireworks
Because safety is our top priority, the fireworks shows are weather-dependent. Prior to New Year’s Eve, Commissioners will meet with public safety personnel to discuss current conditions and get a recommendation about moving forward with the fireworks shows.

Commissioners emphasize that the displays were designed, and locations determined while working closely with law enforcement and fire protection agencies. Agencies conduct site inspections before the shows; are on hand to monitor conditions during the shows; and will conduct site inspections after the shows.

Douglas County recognizes that some individuals, as well as pets, within our communities may experience discomfort when they are surprised by the sounds of fireworks explosions. The County is therefore working with our Sheriff’s Office, other local law enforcement, our large special districts, and municipalities to ensure widespread public awareness. One week before the events, information is being shared via digital advertising, video, social media, an email to subscribers, and traditional print advertising.

In the interest of public safety, Douglas County law enforcement – including the Sheriff’s Office and surrounding municipal police – ask that you plan ahead and honor road closures as well as the “No Parking” signs in the vicinity of the launch sites. Expect temporary changes to traffic patterns and no-parking zones near launch sites.

If you are unable to view from your home, please be prepared to honor all signage and direction from on-site law enforcement when choosing a viewing location and ensure you are not blocking driveways or other public access.
