First term Douglas County Coroner Raeann Brown is already making an impact at the state level on behalf of Douglas County Citizens.

Brown, who was elected in 2022 and began serving as Coroner in 2023, was recently chosen by her peers and Gov. Jared Polis to serve on two boards.

Gov. Jared Polis appointed Brown to the Colorado Coroner Standard and Training Board, which establishes and maintains standards for Coroner education, training and certification. Per this board, every Colorado coroner must complete 20 hours of training and report it to the board. Brown will serve on the CCSTB until March 2026.

Brown’s peers elected her Treasurer of the Colorado Coroners Association’s Executive Board of Directors. This association provides services and support to coroners and deputy coroners throughout the state by sponsoring training and educational activities. She’ll serve as Treasurer until June 2025.

“I am humbled and honored to serve the citizens of Douglas County as Coroner,” Brown said. “It is a privilege to be recognized and elected by my peers to serve as the Treasurer for the Colorado Coroners Association, as well as to be appointed by Governor Polis to the Colorado Coroners Standard and Training Board.”

Brown is a graduate of the Metropolitan State University of Denver, with a degree in biology and criminalistics (the study of evidence). Her background includes 19 years of end-of-life care experience in medicolegal death investigations as well as organ and tissue donation.

Brown is a Forensic Science Board Member for the Warren Tech High School and past forensic expert for the Colorado Coroners Association in organ and tissue donation.

Brown is a third-generation Coloradan who has called Douglas County her home for 26 years. Proudly serving her country, Brown is a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

The Coroner’s Office is a statutory office, which is mandated to establish the cause and manner of death in compliance with Colorado Revised Statute 30-10-601 through 30-10-622 and has four main responsibilities: establish manner and cause of death, and legal identification and notification. As of 2021, Douglas County Coroner’s Office is accredited by the International Association of Coroner & Medical Examiners.
