Update: The April 22 Rain Harvesting workshop has sold out. Thank you for your interest! Please subscribe to our “Rainwater Harvesting” email list to hear about future events.

You know water is a precious resource and so do we… so you might wonder – is it ok to collect rainwater? The answer is, yes.

Learn how to safely – and legally – collect rainwater for irrigation at an upcoming Rainwater Harvesting workshop, hosted by Douglas County and Colorado State University Extension.

The workshop will be from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the James R. Sullivan Events Center, 500 Fairgrounds Road in Castle Rock. The cost is $50 and includes a 55-gallon barrel. Participation in this initial workshop is limited to 30 people, but the County and CSU Extension want to gauge ongoing interest in this topic to determine if additional workshops and public education are desired.

“While attendance at our inaugural workshop is limited to 30 individuals, we hope all those who are not able to secure a seat will subscribe to our email list as an indication of interest in future events,” said Commissioner George Teal.

Registration for the event is online. If you are interested in future events or information, please subscribe to our email list. Choose “Rainwater Harvesting.”

Rainwater collection, also known as rainwater harvesting, is the process of capturing, storing, and directing rainwater runoff and putting it to use. Rainwater collection is allowed under Colorado law, but only for irrigation of lawns and gardens. Collected rainwater cannot be used for drinking water or indoor household purposes.

Learn more and register for the April 22 workshop on the County’s web page.
