Do you have a head for history and a heart for public service?

If so, joining the Douglas County Historic Preservation Board may be the perfect opportunity to use your background in planning, architecture, history or archaeology to give back to your community while engaging in the process of local governance.

The Board is currently accepting applications from residents in Commissioner Districts I II, and III for three open roles. Applicants should have experience, knowledge, or a demonstrated interest in helping to preserve the County’s history and heritage. This may include volunteering for a historical society or other history-related non-profit or researching or publishing research on local history.

Members of the Historic Preservation Board provide recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the designation of historic landmarks or historic districts in unincorporated Douglas County and work to educate County residents on historic matters through public outreach.

The ideal applicant must be able to meet the first Wednesday of January, April, July and October from 6-7:30 p.m., be willing to serve a three-year term and have knowledge of local history or historic preservation. See examples of work accomplished by the Historic Preservation Board and read about some of the County’s history.

Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Feb. 15. Those interested may fill out an online application or print out the application and mail it to: Douglas County Commissioners’ Office, 100 Third St., Castle Rock, CO 80104. For additional information on either opening, please contact the Douglas County Commissioners’ Office at 303-660-7401 or [email protected].
