Pinery Drainage Project

Project Update

Pinery Water & Wastewater District recently started Phase 3, which is the final phase of the five-year project term.

  • Douglas County has videoed the existing storm sewer system and is continuing to review/assess if any of them need general maintenance, cleaning, or replacement.
  • Also, outfall inspections have been completed (this is where storm sewer discharges into ponds or open space) – the cleaning of these specific outfalls will occur in the winter/early spring months (2023 – 2024) to prevent the contractor from being impacted by the summer rains. See “Schedule” section below.
  • Additionally, data is being gathered regarding the status of existing detention ponds – evaluation to ensure design functionality will be performed on these detention ponds.

Description

Douglas County will continue to partner with Pinery Water & Wastewater District on projects that arise in The Pinery subdivision.

Phase 1 – (Completed) The Pinery Water & Wastewater District replaces water mains within certain roadways in the Pinery. To repair roadside drainage issues, the County provided funding for additional survey, design and construction needed to include the drainage repairs in the same areas as the District’s project.

Phase 2 – (Completed) is a Developmental Phase for the Pinery Systemic Drainage Repair Program. Staff will work with property owners to develop feasible solutions to the drainage issues. Public outreach and property owner education about the importance of maintaining drainage infrastructure will be included in this phase.

Phase 3 – (Current Phase) is the Implementation Phase and Douglas County will continue to work in conjunction with Pinery Water & Wastewater on fixing drainage repair, storm sewer systems, and other relative issues within the subdivision as they arise.

Schedule

During the winter/early spring months (2023-2024), cleaning of the outfalls will occur within the Pinery East subdivision.
