The Perry Park Traffic Safety Improvement Project was completed on August 13, 2023.
The Perry Park Road Traffic Safety Improvement Project is located on Perry Park Road from the Douglas/El Paso County Line (Milepost 9.5) to Wolfensberger Road (Milepost 28.2). Construction of the project started on November 14, 2022. Construction of rumble stripes along the centerline and edge line, as well as repainting of the pavement markings, was completed in November 2022.
The project included shoulder widening and installation of guardrail through the curves on Perry Park Road just north of Red Rock Drive between Milepost 18.7 and Milepost 19.5 to mitigate overturning crashes through these reverse curves. The project also included the construction of rumble stripes along the centerline and edge line striping of the roadway to mitigate off-the-road accidents and opposite-direction sideswipe accidents.
Why are traffic safety improvements needed along this road? The goal of this project is to reduce the number of crashes, by constructing new wider paved shoulders, new guardrails, and adding rumble stripes.
Construction of the project was funded by a federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant in the amount of $2,148,300 with a 10% local match from Douglas County. The total County investment in the project for design, construction, and construction management is $1,108,400.50.
