Project Update

Updated Jan. 17, 2024:

  • During the fall season of 2023, construction crews started to work on the small and large UV-CIPP lining of culverts within Highlands Ranch (see “Schedule” section below). This project is anticipated to be completed in December 2024.
  • Outfall Cleanings started again in late 2023 (see “Schedule” section below), and are anticipated to be completed by December 2024.

Description

In Highlands Ranch alone, there are approximately 500,000 feet of pipe in existing stormwater systems and cross culverts. The Douglas County Storm Sewer Video Program has already completed videos of half of these locations, and the next half will be accomplished within the next couple of years.

Staff began repairing these pipes over the last six years and over 15,000 feet of storm sewer was repaired by the end of 2022. The sizes of these pipes vary from 15-inch to 126-inch, and repairs will be ongoing as the aging drainage infrastructure requires.

Schedule

Highlands Ranch Storm Pipe Video Inspections (2023 – 2024)

The 2023 Highlands Ranch subdivision Stormwater Pipe Video Inspection Program is ongoing (started in mid-March 2023) and we will be adding 41,000 linear feet (approx. 348 sections) of storm sewer to be inspected. This project is anticipated to be completed in December 2024, weather dependent (see map of the area of these locations above or in “Photos” section below).

Highlands Ranch SMALL Storm Sewer UV-CIPP Lining Projects

This project will repair 2,455 linear feet of 15-36-inch of corrugated metal pipe (CMP) and reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) in various locations within Highlands Ranch. The project started in October 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in January 2025, weather dependent.

Highlands Ranch LARGE Storm Sewer UV-CIPP Lining Projects

This project will repair approximately 400 linear feet of 54-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) & 465 linear feel of 60-inch CMP along with the laterals that tie into this large storm sewer system in Highlands Ranch. The laterals are shown to be 24” & 30” CMP in University and 24” CMP in Green Meadows. The project started in November 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in December 2024, weather dependent.

East Highlands Ranch Outfall Repair Project

This project started up again in fall/winter (2023); outfall cleaning is easiest to complete during this particular time of the year to allow for ease of finding the outfalls and having minimal impact on vegetation. The contractor will be conducting cleaning and minor repairs on storm sewer outfalls along Big Dry Creek and its tributaries. Work will start after the vegetation dies back and will be completed as weather allows.
