Foodborne Illness (Food Poisoning)

Douglas County Health Department works to prevent foodborne illness by investigating reports of individual illnesses and conducting surveillance to identify outbreaks. Food that is contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites can cause more than 250 diseases. Common symptoms of foodborne illness include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. While most foodborne illness resolves without medical care, see your doctor if your illness is severe or prolonged. Learn more about foodborne illness from the CDC.
