Chemical Household Roundup in Castle Rock – September 21

September 21, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

$25.00

Danger Hazardous chemicals

The Douglas County Household Chemical Roundup makes it easy to drop off your household hazardous waste. Go to the Castle Rock Water utility yard on Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (The utilities yard is located at 175 Kellog Court, Castle Rock, west of I-25 and south of Santa Fe Drive.)

Many common products found in the home may be hazardous and should be used and disposed of carefully. These include motor oil, antifreeze, vehicle batteries, solvents, house and garden chemicals, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), fire extinguishers, items containing mercury, propane tanks (1-20 pounds), paint, and passenger vehicle and pickup truck tires off the rim. Proper disposal at the Roundup helps prevent the potential of accidental poisonings and fire hazards in the home.

Residents drive up and volunteers will unload the materials. Douglas County participants should bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill, and $25 per vehicle to offset the high cost of hazardous waste disposal. Residents are encouraged to register in advance online at www.tchd.org/hcroundup.

A FREE Drop-and-Swap area is available where citizens can pick-up unused household cleaners, car wax, antifreeze, fertilizer, and garden products that are still in their original containers. Reuse of these items promotes environmental stewardship by reducing the amount of waste disposed and additionally decreases the total disposal cost of the Roundup.

Residents with architectural paint and paint products can now conveniently drop-off unwanted paint for free recycling year-round at many locations in the Denver Metro Area. A map of participating Paint Stewardship Program retailers can be found at www.paintcare.org. Simply click find a drop-off site and type in your address to find the nearest participating paint retailer for year-round drop-off service for accepted paint products.

The Douglas County Household Chemical Roundups cannot accept waste from businesses and are not able to accept radioactive waste, compressed gases other than propane (1-20 pounds), smoke detectors, tractor tires, electronic waste of any kind, scrap metal, 55-gallon drums, waste containing asbestos, or explosives.

Individuals or community group volunteers are greatly needed at this event to help with registration, vehicle off-load, and waste processing. Volunteers are allowed to dispose of their waste for free. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.tchd.org/hcroundup and click on Volunteer Registration under the Douglas County tab or call the 24-hour Household Chemical Roundup Hotline at 303-846-6249.
