Community Services

Community Services

The Community Services Division delves into many facets. One of Douglas County’s core priorities of the Board of County Commissioners is health and human services. In partnership with families and the community, Douglas County provides safety-net services for vulnerable residents that promote self-sufficiency. Programs such as Douglas County Cares and Winter Weather Care, along with events like Strive to Thrive help residents who are struggling during difficult times.

Additional resources are available to assist residents in need. Eligible organizations can apply for funds to benefit older adults, persons with developmental disabilities, and residents in need of transit services. Many of these services are made possible through the Community Services Block Grant, Developmental Disabilities Mill Levy Grant, and the Philip S. Miller Grant.

Not only are grants available for residents in need, but also for cultural performances and events. The Douglas County Cultural Council is tasked with distributing grant funds to non-profit organizations thereby expanding the cultural opportunities available to residents. The County also participates in the Douglas County Art Encounters program with multiple jurisdictions.
